Community

Community has always been a passion for me.

Starting with my Homeowners association in 2005, I then volunteered for various positions in the Springbank Hill Community Association including Planning Chair, Vice President and President for a total of 12 years Service. I remain the Casino Chair - still organising and managing Springbank Hill’s Casino fundraising events for over 15 years – and have even managed Casinos for Wildcats, Rangers Soccer and Ernest Manning High School.

I was a member of the visualization team and advisor for the establishment of the West Ring Road and West LRT, and a coordinator for the development of the newly built Ernest Manning High School and Ambrose University’s integration into the community.

Playgrounds and Parks have always been a passion for me and as such I have been involved with numerous projects both in fundraising and management of the projects including Masters Academy and College, Springbank Hill Regional Playground (now Griffith Woods School playground) Spring Valley Playground and our $850,000 5 acre Springbank Hill Community Park with Community Gardens.

I have also established and managed projects such as “This is our Neighborhood” with artist in residence Michelle Hoogveld, and the City Mural project for the Signal Hill Library with Carl White – plus lots of exciting community events such as Cultural Days, Stampede Events, Canada 150 on the Hill, Winter Festivals and Community Clean Up . I continue to run my “Bowness Shop for Free Network” where I collect food, clothing, books and various donations to host a free shopping day. Its very much needed and appreciated by all the low-income and refugee families in the Bowness area.

As part of recognizing exceptional individuals, I was Awarded by the Federal Government of Canada an Outstanding Citizen Award for all my volunteer work and philanthropy work in Calgary – Ron Liepert our Federal MP presented this to me in 2017.
